Brian Lopez was diagnosed at age 39 with essential thrombocythemia (ET) when he was undergoing a knee replacement, and it was noted that his platelet count was elevated. Brian saw a hematologist, who placed him on hydroxyurea (Hydrea). He found Dr. David Snyder at City of Hope after researching MPN specialists, and he knew right away he was the right doctor. Brian entered a clinical trial in 2012 and was doing well until recently, when the trial was halted by the FDA. He is married with three kids and advises newly diagnosed patients to weigh all treatment options and to "do your research."
