Jerry Schreiber, a former construction worker, is 75 years old and lives in Michigan City, Indiana. Jerry is a small cell lung cancer survivor. He has been married for 52 years and has six children, 14 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Jerry’s lung cancer was found by accident when he was being seen for sleep apnea. Jerry was a heavy smoker and was diagnosed with COPD prior to the cancer diagnosis. The tumor was found during a CT scan. After a difficult biopsy, Jerry was diagnosed with lung cancer. He had surgery to remove the upper part of his lung and underwent chemotherapy. Jerry gets a CAT scan every three months, and PET scans every 6 months, but is considered cancer free. Despite the cancer, Jerry feels he has a good quality of life.
