He started treatment with Dr. Nina Shah a few weeks later by way of joining a clinical trial. That led to him getting an autologous stem cell transplant in May 2018, followed by “consolidation” and “maintenance” phases. Now, two years after diagnosis, John remains in the same clinical trial and is progressing well. In his free time, he enjoys traveling and being surprised that Dr. Shah is not on his flight. A fun fact about him is that both he and Dr. Shah are frequent fliers on United Airlines, and they trade lessons learned.
