Dr. Lisa Hicks is an oncological hematologist at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Canada. She is an active contributor to clinical practice guidelines, collaborating with Cancer Care Ontario and the American Society of Hematology. Dr. Hicks is a member of the ASH Committee on Quality, chairing the Choosing Wisely Task Force. Within Canada, sheis a member of the National Clinical Leaders Group for the Choosing Wisely Canada Campaign. Additionally, Dr. Hicks is the St. Michael’s Hospital Lead for their initiative addressing overutilization. As an active member of the Cancer Care Ontario Hematology Disease Site Group, she has been an expert contributor to the pan Canadian Oncology Drug Review process. Dr. Hicks uses traditional clinical epidemiology methods combined with quality improvement techniques to develop interventions used to improve the safety and efficiency of patient care. Her interest in understanding and preventing harm from cancer treatments allows her to focus on understanding drivers of overutilization in healthcare and on developing strategies to decrease this phenomenon.
