Mary Ellen Hand has had a 30-year career of nursing at Rush University Medical Center working in several areas with a dedication and commitment to cancer care. For 20 years she has been the Nurse Coordinator in the Chest Tumor Clinic and the Head and Neck Cancer Center in the Coleman Foundation Comprehensive Cancer Clinics. She is an integral part in providing multidisciplinary care for these complex patient populations. This includes facilitating multidisciplinary tumor boards and triaging and expediting care for these patients.
Mary Ellen has been a loyal, passionate and dedicated volunteer for LUNGevity since the organization was founded. She has supported LUNGevity by serving on the Board of Directors, participating on research and planning committees and serving as a valuable resource to the organization. She was the winner of the 2013 Kay Barmore Award. Mary Ellen has also been Rush’s Team Captain for the Chicago Lung Run for the last 10 years.
Mary Ellen earned her BSN in Nursing in 1984 from the University of Illinois College of Nursing. She is a member of the Oncology Nursing Society and OCN certified.
