Michael Coulombe was diagnosed with polythermia vera (PV) in 1991 when he was 33 years old. He was diagnosed with secondary myelofibrosis four years later and began to experience symptoms from an enlarged spleen, headaches and an overall achy feeling. Michael found the right fit with Dr. David Snyder a City of Hope and started treatment with ruxolitinib (Jakafi), which lasted for three months because he was still experiencing problems with his spleen. He recently completed a stem cell transplant and found the experience to be an emotional roller coaster. Michael feels that his health journey has led him to make positive changes in his relationships and looks forward to once again surfing, weightlifting and riding his bike.
