Pat Gavin is a 5+-year cancer survivor of both stage IV pharyngeal cancer and malignant melanoma. He credits being cured of the stage IV cancer as being the result of “the grace of God and the fact that I participated in a cancer clinical trial.” He now devotes much of his time to being a patient advocate and a cancer research advocate. Pat is the Chairman of the Patient Advisory Committee for Clinical Research for the Cancer Research Consortium of West Michigan (CRCWM) as well as a member of the Executive Operations Board.
He is serving as a cancer research advocate for two national cancer research organizations. Pat is a patient/cancer research advocate for the “Alliance for Clinical Trial in Oncology,” a member of the Board of Directors for the Midwest Melanoma Partnership in Rochester, Minn., and has been part of several national cancer research patient activities with the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) and the American Society for Clinical Oncology (ASCO).
