Paul was diagnosed with CLL at age 54 in 2013. After 17 months of watch and wait, his counts got to the point that he need to begin treatment. After much thought and research, he decided to enter a clinical trial 450 miles from home at Ohio State's James Cancer Center. He remained in the trial for 5 years until it was cancelled because of covid.
Today Paul is being treated at home in Charlottesville at The University of Virginia's Emily Couric Cancer Center and remain stable on the same single agent BTK inhibitor started back in 2015. He is grateful and humbled by the incredible doctors and nurses he has met along his journey. Today, chronic lymphocytic leukemia is a very treatable cancer with many options of medicines to choose from.
