Purva Lad is a social work counselor at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. She graduated from California State University, Fullerton in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and went on to receive a master's degree in social work from the University of Southern California in 2009. Purva has been with MD Anderson Cancer Center since March 2015. Prior to her work at MD Anderson, she was a therapist at an outpatient mental health center for two years working with severe persistent mental illness. Purva also has been a social worker at City of Hope in California working with hematology patients. Prior to her arrival at MD Anderson, she was a manager at a Fortune 500 managed healthcare corporation in Dallas, Texas. She has a special interest in grief and loss/bereavement and suicide prevention and intervention. She currently assists with trainings and policy updates as part of MD Anderson’s Suicide Assessment Committee. Purva is a member of the National Association of Oncology Social Workers and the Society for Social Work Leadership in Health Care. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her husband and son, volunteering with the American Red Cross as a Disaster Mental Health Responder, performing Bollywood and classical Indian dance, reading and watching live Broadway musicals.
