Longtime Leukemia Volunteer Shares Her Own CML Story

Joy Kniskern, 61 of Decatur, Georgia was diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) while she was training for a half-marathon to raise funds to support a friend who had been diagnosed with leukemia. She says her friend’s journey, and her volunteerism for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, helped her in understanding the disease, but her long term career working with people with disabilities prepared her to live well with CML.  Joy remains positive about her own CML journey and remains an avid cyclist, riding her bike even longer today than she did before her diagnosis.
