Question from Tom:
Three days after I made a blood donation at a local blood donating facility, I went to have blood drawn for PSA testing. The test came back much higher than normal. Did the blood donation have an impact on the higher PSA results? Is PSA figured as a percentage to total blood volume?

Answer from Dr. Leclair:
No, that would not have anything to do with it. Within 18 hours after your donation, the total volume of whole blood (plasma and cells) had returned to normal. PSA is reported as antigen in 100 milliliters of blood.
