Fifteen years ago, all lung cancers were treated equally. Today, genetic profiling techniques allow researchers to use genetic characteristics to differentiate between tumors. This new information enables doctors to treat lung cancer patients according to their tumor's specific genetic profile. Dr. Fiorana Morgillo, a specialist in lung cancer at University of Naples Luigi Vanvitelli explains what this type of analysis may mean for lung cancer patients in the future.

The interview with Dr. Fiorana Morgillo was recorded at the Congress of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) held in Madrid (September 2017). The videos on lung cancer that were recorded at ESMO 2017 are part of an educational program of the Patient Empowerment Foundation ( PEF ). We thank AstraZeneca for their support.
