Joanne Taylor (@abcdiagnosis), a secondary breast cancer patient from Diggle (Manchester), explains how she uses Twitter to connect with other patients and doctors and to create awareness of breast cancer. Joanne has close to 12,000 followers, and she tweets from cancer conferences to get the news out for patients.

This interview was recorded at the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) congress held in Madrid (September 2017). Breast cancer videos recorded at ESMO 17 are part of an educational program by the Patient Empowerment Foundation (PEF). We thank Roche for their support.

Joanne Taylor:

It's given me power and power to meet the people, power of actually learning about the disease.  You know, there's lots of crossover with other countries as well, because it opens up other areas. So when you connect with not just patients, you connect with oncologists and surgeons, various other people who are involved in the disease, of cancer in general.

It's amazing.  It's an amazing tool for doing that and using the hash tags too, so you're able to search for your specific disease.  It's a brilliant way of connecting with other people and other professionals.
